The Belvedere Residence is a community-based, low-cost housing facility for at-risk seniors.

We believe in offering welcoming, safe, single-room homes for 32 independent seniors at risk of becoming homeless.
Enjoy safe, single-room accomodations, in a well-appointed and safe building, designed for comfort, safety, and convenience in a welcoming environment. As well, the presence of a night watchperson from midnight to 6:00 am assures residents that there is always someone looking out for them.
Residents may participate in a variety of programmes and events to promote social engagement and a vibrant community life. The Belvedere Residence holds a number of holiday parties and BBQ's each year, as well as numerous clinics to help residents cope.
Our dedicated on-site administrator is tasked with aiding the resident community in navigating independently their daily routines, and offers support in the form of organized events, such as to help residents get access to free dental care, or apply for government rebates during tax season, for example.
Early in the 1960's, a group called the Red Feathers set up a low-cost residence to house people of limited means, but who were able to function independently. Subsequent changes in ownership, organizational structure, and property location led to the eventual incorporation of the Prospect Belvedere Services Corporation in 1974 by John Dawson, a very generous benefactor. Relying on a board of hard-working and well-intentioned volunteers over the past 50 years, Prospect Belvedere has persevered through government decrees, funding shortfalls, and the significant ups and downs of the local economy. Prospect Belvedere, under the guidance of our current Administrator Norma Lovett, and the leadership of a strong board headed by Janette Braun, is arguably in the most strong and stable position since its formation over 60 years ago.
The Belvedere Residence is currently home to 32 fully independent and mobile adults, over the age of 55, who are stable, but at risk of becoming part of the statistics of homeless Montrealers. They are provided a safe and welcoming environment, where they are stimulated and encouraged to take part in the myriad activities available to them. Current plans see a course of constant improvement of the facilities, and while expansion is always on the radar, the current board is focused on improving the facilties and services for the current residents. Fundraising in order to build a robust capital account for extensive, but necessary renovation work, is our key focus.
Slow and steady wins the race, not just in life, but in building responsible and sustainable social care organizations, like the Prospect Belvedere Services Corporation. We will continue to draw on prominent members of the local community to form our board and administer the facility. We will continue to raise funds in an ethical and dignified fashion, and we will administer those funds as if every dollar was our last. We would be gratified if each reader could make a donation; volunteer their time; or offer a gift of a bequest to the Prospect Belvedere Services Corporation in your estate planning.

Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and fund our mission. Approximately 50% of our operations are funded by private donations, so your support is greatly appreciated.
